ANKARA - A lawsuit was filed against MA reporter Ceylan Şahinli, being held in Sincan Prison, on the allegation of "terrorist propaganda" 5 years later.

A lawsuit was filed against Ceylan Şahinli, who was arrested on October 29 as part of an investigation launched by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, 5 years after the investigation was launched. The first hearing of the case brought against Şahinli, who is being held in Sincan Women's Closed Prison, on the allegation of "terrorist propaganda" will be held on March 7. In the letter she sent, Şahinli stated that a lawsuit was filed against her, and that her statement was taken by the prosecutor's office without a lawyer.

INVESTIGATION TURNED INTO A LAWSUIT 5 YEARS LATER

Şahinli said: "Even though I demanded a lawyer, the prosecutor said I didn't need one which clearly shows the intent. The judge demanded punishment. The judiciary that couldn't find an organisation to link documentarist Sibel Tekin with, declared me a propagandist for United Freedom Forces (BÖG) and a propagandist for the PKK. I will stand trial on March 7. I will ask the judge what he decided. This investigation was launched in 2017 and I wasn't even informed that an investigation was launched against me until now. What a coincidence that it was communicated to me right after I was arrested."

ŞAHİNLİ'S SOCIAL ACTIVITIES WERE RESTRICTED

Speaking about the violations of rights in Sincan Women's Closed Prison in which she is being held for the last 2 months, Şahinli told that the heat is being turned off after 16.00 in the evening. Stating that her social activities were restricted, Şahinli told that she is only allowed to be involved in social activities with the people in her own ward and the 5 journalists in her ward are not allowed to contact other prisoners.

DECISION OF CONTINUATION OF ARREST FOR THE THIRD TIME

Şahinli also said that there has been two reviews of the decision of their arrest so far and in the third review the judge didn't even look them in the face and announced the continuation of their arrest in seconds.
