NEWS CENTER - Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mikdat said at a press conference, "We cannot talk about establishing normal ties with Turkey until the occupation is eliminated."
The rapprochement between Syria and Turkey under the mediation of Russia resulted in the last meeting of the defense ministers in Moscow on December 28, 2022. On January 12, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu announced that he would meet with Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mikdat in February.
However, Mikdat said that for Tayyip Erdogan and Bashar Assad to come together, "it depends on the disappearance of the inconsistent elements". Mikdat said: "We cannot talk about establishing normal ties with Turkey until the occupation is eliminated."
In a statement he made a while ago, Erdogan said that after the meeting of the foreign ministers, the heads of state could also come together. Assad, on the other hand, stated in his statement on January 13 that the results of the talks “depend on the end of the support given to the occupation and terrorism”.
