Police barrier to meeting with imprisoned journalists

ANKARA - The names given by the imprisoned journalists for the visit are rejected by the Ankara Police on the claim that the visits will have an "organizational nature".
 
Diren Yurtsever, Editor-in-Chief of the Mesopotamia Agency (MA), who was arrested on October 29 as part of the investigation carried out by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, along with reporters Berivan Altan, Ceylan Şahinli, Salman Güzelyüz, Emrullah Acar, Hakan Yalçın and Deniz Nazlım, and JINNEWS reporters Habibe Eren and Öznur Değer Applications made with a petition for visitation are rejected.
 
STATE TRY TO CRIMALIZE MEZOPOTAMYA AGENCY
 
The objections of imprisoned journalists to the Ankara Western Court of Execution against the rejection of the applications for the visit on the grounds of "objection" were unsuccessful. Ankara Police Department cited her colleague Yüsra Batıhan's working at the Mesopotamia Agency as "inconvenient", who applied for an opinion on MA reporter Ceylan Şahinli.
 
ANKARA POLICE DECIDED AGAINST BATIHAN WITHOUT ANY COURT DECISION
 
Although it was stated in the research report sent by the Ankara Police to the Execution Judge that no information or documents were reached by the branch directorates, it cited Batıhan's work at the Mesopotamia Agency as the reason. The following statements were included in the research report: "It is understood that the interview with the person with the intelligence record is considered to be of an 'organizational nature', and it is understood that you should evaluate whether or not to hold an interview."
 
REASON OF REJECTION: WRITING NEWS ABOUT VIOLATIONS IN PRISONS
 
On the other hand, the Administrative and Observation Board of the Sincan No. 1 High Security Penitentiary Institution cited the news about violations in the prison as the reason for the rejection of MA reporter Hakan Yalçın's visit application. The Administration and Observation Board included the following statements in its justification: "It has been understood that it has obtained information that it has made news about the detainees and convicts in prison, and that it has played a role in serving as agitation and propaganda material for the masses that are affiliated with the 'organization'."
