İZMİR - Prisoners who continue their hunger strike in Trabzon, Bolu, Giresun, Afyon and İzmir prisons, where severe violations of rights are experienced, demand the elimination of the violations.
The hunger strikes initiated by the prisoners against the systematic violations of rights in prisons are spreading. While the right of the prisoners to send letters, books, telephones, visits, and hospital transfers is prevented in prisons, the Administration and Observation Board arbitrarily postpones the release of the prisoners. Against all these violations of rights, the prisoners began to starve in Trabzon Beşikdüzü Type T Prison, Bolu Type F Prison, Giresun Espiye Type L Closed Prison, Şakran Women's Closed Prison and Afyon No 1 Type T Closed Prison. Prisoners in 5 different prisons in Turkey continue their periodic and indefinite hunger strikes.
TRABZON
Since July 2022, prisoners in Trabzon Beşikdüzü Type T Prison continue their 5-day rotating hunger strike action. The prisoners engage in arbitrary practices such as "restriction of joint activities, not giving radio to political prisoners, imposition of stripped searches, confiscation of petitions sent to the ministry or other institutions by the prison administration without any reason, limiting the number of books to 5 books, not releasing the prisoners despite their conditional release rights, not giving the newspapers".
BOLU
In Bolu Type F Prison, since November 2022, three prisoners each continue the rotating hunger strike, which started every 20 days. The prisoners continue their protests against they were not realed despite serving their sentence. The restriction of the use of common areas and the various rights violations that continue in the prison.
GIRESUN
The rotating hunger strike started in Giresun Espiye Type L Closed Prison on December 7, 2022, was turned into an indefinite and nonrotating hunger strike after the problems were not resolved. Erdal Emeç, Aydın Oğuz and Ahmet Budak, who started the indefinite and nonrotating hunger strike on January 31, continue their actions against the psychological pressure of the administration, the attack on Kurdish identity, not taking ill prisoners to hospital, not giving Kurdish books, arbitrary practices and beating prisoners.
ŞAKRAN
In Şakran Women's Closed Prison, the prisoners started a 10-day rotating hunger strike on January 2, 2023, against the imposition of a standing census, the deepening of the isolation conditions, book restrictions and not allowing common air conditioning. The imprisoned writer Leyla Saraç initiated the action, which was carried out as a warning. The hunger strike from prison continues.
AFYON
In Afyon No. 1 Type T Closed Prison, the prisoners started an indefinite and nonrotating hunger strike on January 3, 2022, against the imposition of raids and standing counts on the wards. The hunger strike, which was first started by 2 prisoners, is currently being held by 9 prisoners.
