HATAY - In Iskenderun, where many buildings were destroyed after the earthquake, search and rescue efforts were started approximately 30 hours later. The bodies pulled from the rubble are kept on the street.

Search and rescue efforts were initiated approximately 30 hours later in the Iskenderun district of Hatay, one of the cities affected by the earthquakes, the epicenter of which was Maraş and Gaziantep. While a large part of the Çay Mahallesi of the district was demolished, the cut off of electricity and water increased the suffering of the people.

THE DEAD ARE HOLD ON THE STREET

After the earthquake, the people in the district carried out the search and rescue efforts by their own means. The teams, who came to the region yesterday evening and took a break from the work they had just started due to the rain, started their work this morning. In the district, where there are few AFAD employees, the people and soldiers carry out search and rescue efforts. About 30 hours after the earthquake, the bodies started to be taken from the wreckage where the work was started; however, since there is no ambulance and funeral vehicle, the bodies are held on the street on stretchers. Some of the bodies are transported to hospitals by police vehicles.

CITIZENS CONDEMNED GOVERNMENT

Condemning the lack of help and support, the people of the district said that the teams sent were insufficient. Stating that the loss of life increased because the search and rescue efforts were not started on time, the public said that they could not do anything about the situation.

TTB CHAIRPERSON IS IN THE REGION

Erinç Sağkan, President of the Union of Turkish Bar Associations (TBB), who came to the region, met with the families of his colleagues who lost their lives in the earthquake.
