NEWS CENTER - Professional organizations condemning the prevention of journalists working in earthquake areas said: "The right of People to be informed cannot be prevented."

There was condemnation from professional organizations when the police prevented journalists from working in the field on the grounds of the state of emergency.

Dicle Fırat Journalists Association (DFG) stated that the situation is unacceptable in a statement on the issue on its twitter account. The statement of the DFG is as follows: “The first action of the state of emergency declared after the Gaziantep and Kahramanmaraş-epicenter earthquake was aimed at journalists. The police blocked the journalists working at the rubble in Diyarbakır on the grounds that they did not have a turquoise card. Even in such difficult times, we do not accept the obstruction of journalists.”

'BLOCKING IS A SERIOUS CRIME '

The Media and Law Studies Association (MLSA) also used the following statements in its statement: “Turkish journalists have been given turquoise cards and foreign journalists have been granted accreditation in order to shoot in the earthquake areas in Diyarbakir. Journalists are requested to apply to the Regional Directorate of the Directorate of Communications. Unfortunately, there is a government that thinks how can they prevent the right to receive news stories even in such a situation. Neither accreditation nor a turquoise card is required to report on the earthquake. The constitution/press law is all clear. Journalists are fulfilling their public duties. Blocking is a serious crime!"

'YOU CANNOT BLOCK THE RIGHT OF PEOPLE TO BE INFORMED'

The Journalists' Union of Turkey (TGS), on the other hand, condemned the decision with the following words: "Journalists are being removed from the rubble in some regions with the declaration of state of emergency. Investigations are being opened against TV commentators and social media users. Those who talk about neglect and places where there is no help are wanted to be censored. You cannot block the right of people to be informed!”
