ANKARA - HDP filed a criminal complaint to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office about BTK, which narrowed the band on social media.
Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Law and Human Rights Commission filed a criminal complaint with the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against the Science Technologies Authority (BTK) regarding the band narrowing brought to Twitter on the 3rd day of the earthquake. In the petition for the denunciation, it was pointed out that the BTK committed the crimes of "Deliberately committing murder by negligence", "Abuse of office", "Preventing the functioning of information systems" and "Unlawful blocking of communication".
THE IMPORTANCE OF SOCIAL MEDIA
In the petition emphasizing that all communication and transportation resources should be open to the end in order to intervene in the rubble and save the people who are under the rubble: "Many people who have been under the rubble since the first moment of the earthquake have been reached as a result of the posts made on social media and media organs and its rapid dissemination. Many people under the rubble published their location, health status and needs on social media platforms, and as a result of these posts, they were reached quickly. It has been clearly demonstrated that the internet and social media platforms used in the face of the disaster are of vital importance. While what needs to be done is to facilitate, expand and accelerate access to all communication, transportation, internet and social media networks, the band narrowing process applied by the BTK clearly violates the articles of the Turkish Penal Code No. 5237, which will be explained below."
