MEREŞ - The earthquake victims, who spent the first night in tents set up by AFAD hastily, on snow and icy ground, 5 days after the earthquake, condemned the situation and said: "We did not sleep in order not to freeze."
In the Elbistan district of Maraş, where the earthquake caused heavy destruction, the housing and heating problem, which has been going on for days, has not been resolved. Tents were set up at several points last night for the earthquake victims, who have been trying to warm up by lighting fires in cold weather for days and spending the night outside. All day long it took effort to set up stoves in tents that were hastily set up. It is very difficult to live in tents where only a few people live.
A TENT IS SET ON ICE
Those who entered the tents with hope, thinking that the sheltering problem would be solved, were disappointed. The earthquake victims, who spent the first night in the tents set up in an empty area next to the cemevi, almost revolted. Earthquake victims, who resisted freezing during the night, suffered greatly due to the icy ground. Stating that they could not sleep in the tent at night to avoid freezing, earthquake victims said: "As a result of the melting of the snow on the ground, all the blankets got wet. We spent our first night in the tent. Our blankets burned due to the catalytic stove, and we realized the situation at the last moment and went out. We barely saved our lives. Despite the passage of all this time, we are still suffering from misery."
