MARAŞ - There is rebellion and pain in the family home of the mother and two children, who were left in the rubble of the destroyed building in Elbistan. Hacı Terzi, who lost his daughter and two grandchildren, said: “ We were waiting for someone to save them, but they left under the rubble and froze to death."
In the devastating earthquake in Maraş, thousands of people froze to death as a result of neglect and late intervention. The earthquake left behind pain and drama. The Terzi family in Elbistan is just one of the families that experienced this pain and drama. Three members of the Terzi family lost their lives under the rubble, along with 11 other people, in the İsmailağa Apartment Building, which was destroyed in the earthquake. While Perihan Terzi and her children Doğan and Duran were trapped under the rubble, a child escaped by coming out of a hole where he found them. After 4 days after the earthquake, the search and rescue efforts were started after the apartment building was demolished. The frozen bodies of family members were found on the same day.
LEFT TO DEATH FOR THREE DAYS
Halil Terzi, who lost his mother and two brothers, expressed the same rebellion. Terzi told what happened: “I came from abroad. For three days the state did not interfere with them, they would surely have survived. I was talking to my mother at the moment of the earthquake, my mother hung up crying. I should have realized that he was saying goodbye to me. On the third day of the earthquake, ladles broke in and we dug the bodies of my mother and two brothers. My brother Doğan had died while sitting on the sofa, my other brother had put his hands under his head and was frozen. My mother also died on the stairs. How are people left to die? How to intervene in a wreck after 3 days? While we couldn't get out of the cold, they waited under the rubble for 3 days and were taken out by freezing temperatures. There is gross negligence here. After the earthquake, these places were emptied and we had another exile.”
