MARAŞ - Stating that her father died in her arms, who was not treated at the hospital, Gülcan Saya, a resident of Söğütlü village of Dulkadiroğlu district said: "We are crushed under the system, not the earthquake."
Söğütlü rural neighborhood with 100 houses in Maraş's Dulkadiroğlu district is one of the neighborhoods most affected by the earthquake. 9 people died due to the earthquake in the neighborhood where many houses were destroyed and the surviving ones were heavily damaged. 5 people from the same neighborhood lost their lives in the center of Maraş. Neighborhood residents have been struggling to survive in tents since the first day of the earthquake. Citizens say that the state does not visit their neighborhoods and that they are left alone.
EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS WAIT FOR SUPPORT
Gülcan Saya, who is sitting on a building that has turned into a wreck in what is known as the square of the neighborhood, said: “No one came from any authority. People have passed the supplies and food aid, they are waiting for psychological support. We are looking for a shoulder in the spiritual sense, but we cannot find it”.
'I LOST MY FATHER IN MY ARMS'
Saying that they pulled his father Mehmet Saya out of the rubble with their own means and then took him to Necip Fazıl City Hospital in a wounded vehicle, Saya said: "What my cousin was told there was, 'Everyone is in the same situation as you, there are people in worse condition than you'. They sent my father from the hospital. I lost him in my arms. We waited here for hours. My father died right next to us, right before our eyes. It should not have been like this. People are affected, our country is in bad shape. But even though it was the 10th day of the earthquake, no official came to help us."
