DİYARBAKIR - HDP Diyarbakır Crisis Coordination Center drew attention to the fact that the government, which does not want to find a solution to the devastation after the earthquake, is trying to displace people to provinces such as Antalya and Muğla in a way that will change the demographic structure, and called for increased solidarity against this.
Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Diyarbakır Crisis Coordination Center held a press conference in Kayapınar district building regarding the work done in the earthquake. HDP Diyarbakır Provincial Co-chairs Gülistan Atasoy and Zeyyat Ceylan, Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Diyarbakır Provincial Co-chair Hayrettin Altun and Green Left Party Diyarbakır Provincial Co-Spokesperson Abbas Şahin attended the statement.
'COLLECTIVE SOLIDARITY IS THE ANSWER'
Speaking before the statement, HDP Provincial Co-chair Gülistan Atasoy drew attention to the 14th day of the earthquake and said: “We lost tens of thousands of people in the earthquake that affected 11 provinces, and hundreds of thousands of people were injured. We are faced with the reality that there are many people whose houses have been destroyed and who are left on the street. We promise to heal these wounds with solidarity. There have been many shortcomings since the first day of the earthquake, these stemmed from the centralist and monist understanding of the government. But the solidarity of the people showed promise. It was understood that collective solidarity against the statist militarist understanding was the basic need. Although there were only 6 wrecks in Diyarbakır, 409 lives were lost in 13 days due to deficiencies. As HDP Crisis Coordination, we have been working with our institutions from the very first moment, despite the trustees. We tried to be with our people as much as possible. We are in solidarity not only with Diyarbakır but also with other cities.”
'MURDERER OF TEN THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE'
Making a statement on behalf of Diyarbakır Crisis Coordination Center, Green Left Party Provincial Co-Spokesperson Abbas Şahin said: “As you know, AKP came to power after the earthquake and carelessness disaster in Marmara in 1999. The 23-year AKP government did not learn any lesson from the earthquake in 99, and went further and opened the whole of nature and the resources of the people to rent, and turned a blind eye to the massacre of thousands of people at the expense of making a handful of contractors rich. Although the political power tried to shed its responsibility with its usual policy of perception management by defining the event as the disaster of the century, the public saw everything by experiencing it with all its reality. The government, which tried to prolong its expiration date with day-to-day policies, became the murderer of tens of thousands of people. When the building gave license to hundreds of thousands of houses that are far from control with the zoning amnesty issued and turned this into a political show, these days were actually planned. Short-term profit-oriented policies have been and will continue to be disastrous for this society.”
'DO NOT PLAY WITH THE DEMOGRAPHIC STRUCTURE'
Referring to the destroyed buildings in Diyarbakır, Ceylan said: "Many of our people have been left homeless, we should reach out to our homeless people. They are forcing our people to migrate. The state says, 'Go from Diyarbakır to Muğla'. What to do there. We have a call, do not play with the demographic structure of the geography. Whatever happens, we must continue to live on our own land. There was so much suffering because it was not detected beforehand. They left the people defenseless. We will always advocate life in place. If there were no trustees, such deficiencies would not exist. The municipalities, which were in the hands of trustees, could not deliver the aid. All of the people know that the state has not fulfilled its role and mission. Amed knitted this solidarity with the result of 50 years of struggle. Our cure is our people, our people's organization. Hundreds of our people are still under the rubble, they are homeless outside, let's take care of each other. Let's extend our hand of solidarity to our people."
