Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Law and Human Rights Commission filed a criminal complaint regarding police torture against 10 people, including party leaders, in the Iskenderun district of Hatay, which is an earthquake area. In the petition submitted, it was requested that action be taken against the Governor of Hatay, the Chief of Police, the Iskenderun District Police Chief, and the officers who committed the act of torture for "committing the crime of torture".
In the application, where it is stated that 10 people who were taken into custody were severely tortured even though the allegations against them did not reflect the truth, and this was reported to the prosecutor's office, it was stated that “Innocent people who lost their relatives in the earthquake disaster, their houses were destroyed and their workplaces were evacuated were subjected to heavy torture by the law enforcement personnel. Torture is prohibited in the Constitution, the Turkish Penal Code No. 5237 and many international conventions. The prohibition of torture and ill-treatment is a type of crime guaranteed by law on an international scale. Unfortunately, the suspects in the file were brutally beaten, they had severe eruptions and bruises on their faces and bodies, they were insulted and dishonored, their faces were turned towards the wall with reverse handcuffs and they were kept standing. We present to your prosecutor's office the images of the people who were battered with the torture and ill-treatment in question.
