MARAŞ- Citizens who still have tent and food problems in the center of Maraş, hold on to life in tents they set up from the iron they dug out of the tarpaulin and rubble they bought with their own means.
While there was heavy destruction in Maraş, the epicenter of the earthquake, thousands of people lost their lives in the central Dulkadiroğlu and February 12 districts. Many people whose houses were destroyed and damaged are still trying to solve the problem of shelter by their own means. Citizens who prefer high regions that are not affected much by the earthquake are deprived of food aid this time.
Many people, whose building was destroyed in Sütçü İmam Neighborhood of Dulkadiroğlu district, could not find a place in the tent cities. Citizens, who are not provided with tents despite their demands, try to hold on to life in tents they set up from tarpaulins in the higher parts of Beyazıt Neighborhood, which they see as safer.
EARTHQUAKE VICTIM CAN'T FIND TENTS
Stating that they turned the tarpaulins they bought with their own means into tents with the iron they obtained from the construction rubble, Mehmet Koca said: “We are trying to do as much as we can. There is destruction, there are buildings to be demolished. There are cracked buildings. Some are afraid and cannot enter the apartment. Everyone is trying to do something with their own means. We did not even know where to make the tent request, we were first told that we would have applied via e-government, but then we were directed elsewhere. We are looking for it, but it does not work. Someone says 122. Someone says 144. Everyone is saying something. We're looking for them, they're directing them here and there. They call it AFAD. Everyone says something."
NO WATER AND ELECTRICITY
Stating that they do not have water and electricity and that there are still days after the earthquake, Koca said: “There are 10-15 people staying in each tent. We likewise. We are trying to do something with our own means. Some of us stay in the car and continue. No dry food. The meal comes every once in a while. It is not clear whether the food is coming or not. There is no mayor either.”
