AMED - Journalist Engin Yurtsever pointed out that there may be new attacks against Garê and Qandil and said: “The region is going through a transition process from occupation to annexation.”

Turkey's attacks on the territory of the Federated Kurdistan Region in partnership with the KDP continue. Turkey, with the support of the KDP, is settling in new areas and building new military bases and roads. Turkey's heavy weapons and troop shipments to the Dohuk countryside continue. Journalist Engin Yurtsever evaluated Turkey's attacks.

Yurtsever said that Turkey's new moves are in line with the new developments in the Middle East. Pointing to the latest attacks, Yurtsever said: “The conflicts that started on October 7, 2023 with Hamas' attack on Israel have caused Israel to expand its war strategy. Meanwhile, Turkey, which wants to get a share from the chaotic situation in the Middle East, dreams of expanding its borders by acting in line with Neo-Ottomanism policies. This strategy, which aims to revitalize the borders of national pact, also directs Turkey's operations in the Federated Kurdistan Region.”

'THERE IS A TRANSITION FROM OCCUPATION TO ANNEXATION'

Noting that Turkey has been pursuing a new strategy to “liquidate the PKK” especially since 2023, Yurtsever said that Turkey has been holding diplomatic talks with the KDP and the Iraqi government as part of this strategy. “There is a process of transition from occupation to annexation in the region. Turkey, with the support of the KDP, is trying to strengthen its military presence by building roads from Batufa to Şeladizê. By establishing military bases at strategic points in the region, the aim is to completely evacuate civilian settlements. The nature and people of Kurdistan are bombed every day. The aim is not only end Kurds in the area but also to make the region uninhabitable” he said.

'PREPARATIONS FOR ATTACK ON GARÊ AND KANDIL'

Yurtsever noted that Metîna and the west of Zap were besieged with the support of the Barzani family. Yurtsever continued as follows: “After KDP Chair Massoud Barzani's visit to Baghdad, the attacks moved to the level of annexation. At the Bamernê military base in the Amêdiye region, a joint operations room was established by MIT and KDP intelligence unit Parastin. It should be noted that Turkey is preparing a large-scale attack on Garê and Qandil by using the peshmerga forces in this region. With its recent attacks, Turkey is preparing the ground for a larger operation against Garê and Qandil. These events are Turkey's rehearsals for taking over Bashûr Kurdistan. This rehearsal started from Metîna. Practices such as the evacuation of villages and the establishment of checkpoints on the roads are part of this plan.”
