MÊRDÎN - Abdulkadir Kuday, a prisoner with ALS who was prevented from being released despite his severe health problems, died in Metris Type R Closed Prison.

Abdulkadir Kuday, a prisoner in Metris Type R Closed Prison who was not released despite his health problems, died this morning. Kuday's brother Salih Kuday reported that his brother died in prison this morning. Kuday said that they will be on their way to pick up the body.

MISDIAGNOSIS

Kuday was arrested in 2014 in Qoser (Kızıltepe) district of Mêrdîn and was first put into Mardin Type E Closed Prison and then transferred to Tekirdağ Type T Closed Prison. After 4 years, Kuday (52) was first diagnosed with a herniated disc at the hospital to which he was referred in 2021 as a result of public pressure. However, Kuday, who was referred to the hospital again after his pain increased, was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) as a result of the tests. Kuday, who became paralyzed and unable to walk, was transferred to Tekirdağ Dr. İsmail Fehmi Cumalıoğlu City Hospital on December 1, 2021.

EVACUATION PREVENTED

The hospital reported that Kuday “cannot survive in prison”. However, a report was prepared stating that Kuday could be kept in R (Rehabilitation) Type Prison and he was transferred to Metris Type R Prison No 2 on January 12, 2022.

Kuday's condition worsened here. However, he was not released again. On August 20, Kuday was taken to Başakşehir Çam and Sakura Hospital after his condition worsened. Kuday, who refused to be released despite his illness and refused treatment, was taken back to prison.

HIS LAST WISH WAS TO BE AMONG HIS CHILDREN

During his “conditional” release on August 19, Serdal Yıldırım, the seriously ill prisoner with whom he was held, conveyed Kuday's last wish with the following words: “I want to spend my last days with my family, among my children.”

Kuday's lawyers and MPs from the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) have recently applied to several places, including the Ministry of Justice, for Kuday's release. However, their appeals went unanswered.
