MÊRDÎN - Ahmet Türk, who stated that he withdrew his candidacy application for the Mêrdîn Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayorship on the grounds that he was not elected in the first round, said: "I will continue the struggle of the Kurds on different platforms."
The People's Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) held a referendum yesterday to determine the co-mayors, municipal council members and provincial general council members in 10 provinces and many affiliated districts.
Ahmet Türk, who applied as a candidate for the Co-Mayorship of Mêrdîn Metropolitan Municipality, stated in his previous statement that he would withdraw from his candidacy if he was not elected in the first round.
Türk came first in the elections held yesterday. However, he could not pass the 50+1 percent threshold.
Speaking to Mezopotamya Agency (MA), Türk announced that he withdrew his candidacy. Türk said: “I had previously announced that I would withdraw if I did not exceed 50 percent. I thank the public for their support. I am withdrawing from active politics. I will continue the struggle of the Kurds on different platforms”
