AMED - In Lîce, the police sealed a coffee shop for 30 days on the grounds that MEDYA Haber TV channel was broadcasting in the shop.
While the process for the solution of the Kurdish issue continues, the repression and bans in Kurdistan cities are of a kind that makes one say "What a mess, what a cabbage pickle". An example of this contradiction of the government took place this time in Lice district of Amed (Diyarbakır).
Police officers went to a coffee house in Lice and sealed it because of the Medya Haber TV channel.
The police officers went to the coffee house owned by Erhan Akkan in Lice, first switched on the television which was switched off, then searched through the channels and selected Medya Haber TV channel. Police officers, who were waiting for the news about PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan to be broadcast, took a photo when they saw Abdullah Öcalan's photo on the screen and sealed the coffee house for 30 days on the allegation of "terrorist organization propaganda".
Erhan Akkan, the owner of the coffee house, reacted to the sealing of his business and said, "On 4 February, the police came to my coffee house and turned on my television which was off. They searched for a chanell and after bringing it to Medya Haber, they waited for about five minutes. After Abdullah Öcalan's images appeared on the screen, they took a photograph of the television."
30-DAY SEALING ORDER
The police report reads: "The business named Dörtyol Kıraathanesi, located at Yeşilburç Mahallesi... will be sealed for 30 (thirty) days on the grounds that it has been determined that it has been found to make terrorist organization propaganda with the Approvals of the Lice District Governorate Authority dated 05.02.2025 and numbered EBYS-2025020514523443029. Since it was decided to close your workplace on 05.02.2025, your workplace will be sealed and closed on 14.02.2025 at 07.50' and the workplace was closed."
Erhan Akkan stated that the decision is unlawful and applied for an appeal to the Lice Criminal Court of Peace. It is learned that owners of many coffee houses in the district were pressured not to watch Medya Haber TV.
