AMED - Amed Newroz started with a minute of silence in memory of those who lost their lives in the struggle for freedom and democracy.
Newroz celebration is being held in Newroz Park in Rezan (Bağlar) district of Amed (Diyarbakır) with the slogans "Rêbertiya Azad Civaka Demokratîk (Free Leader, Democratic Society)" and "Democratic Society for Freedom". Arrivals to the area where young people and women are concentrated started in the early hours of the morning. Tens of thousands of people are still waiting at checkpoints to enter the area.
The enthusiasm in the area is increasing with each passing minute. As the arrivals continued, the Newroz programme started. Newroz of all peoples was celebrated from the stage. Afterwards, a momnet of silence was observed for those who lost their lives in the struggle for freedom and democracy. At this time, the slogan "Bijî Serok Apo (Long live Leader Apo)" was raised.
'PEACE AND FREEDOM' EMPHASISED
Gülşen Özer from the Newroz Organising Committee commemorated Kemal Kurkut and those who set their bodies on fire during Newroz. Gülşen Özer said, "We light the Newroz fire for freedom and peace. We send greetings to all prisoners in the person of Mr Abdullah Öcalan."
