NEWS CENTER - Hosting a TV Show, Didem Arslan Yılmaz hung up on a citizen who spoke Kurdish and said: "This is Turkey, you have to speak in Turkish."
When Türkan Taşçı spoke Kurdish on the phone during the show, Yılmaz said: "No, no, no. Cut the connection. She can't speak like this. Tell her we will call her back if she speaks Turkish properly. This is Turkey. We don't know that langugae."
Racist approach of Yılmaz was widely discussed online and #HaddiniBilDidemArslan hashtag became trend topic in a few hours.
Yılmaz made a statement on Twitter and underlined that she thinks the public outrage against her was ridiculous. Yılmaz wrote: "I didn't hung up on her because she was Kurdish. She insulted her niece. That's why I hang up. I have no problem with Kurdish. Using this to start a political lynch is ridiculous. I have no problem with people who speak Kurdish. I am sorry if I offended anyone."
