ŞIRNAK - Naif İşçi who is denied his right to treatment despite the problem in his leg, has now difficulty walking due to the shrinking of the bone.

 

Access to the right to health is one of the leading violations of rights against prisoners and convicts held in prisons in Turkey and the region. Naif İşçi, who has been imprisoned for 11 years, is just one of the prisoners whose health problems worsen in prison conditions due to the lack of treatment. İşçi, who was detained during a raid on his house in Cizre district of Şırnak in September 2010 and was sentenced to 24 years in prison on charges of "committing a crime on behalf of the  terrorist organization without being a member of it", "propagandizing a terrorist organization", "opposing the law on meetings and demonstrations" and "unauthorized possession and transportation of dangerous goods". 

 

Having had an accident right before his arrest, İşçi underwent an operation on his leg. An implant was placed in İşçi's leg which was supposed to be removed in 6 months but his treatment was denied and he is no longer able to walk. Transfered from one prison to another, İşçi is held in solitary confinement since the first day he was brought to the new prison. İşçi also suffers from other diseases.

 

İŞÇİ IS GETTING WORSE BY THE DAY

 

Stating that İşçi has a limp due to the lack of treatement, mother Nebahat İşçi said: "He was rushed into prison before the doctors could remove his stitches. He wasn't treated there. He says he is suffering from multiple diseases and he is held in solitary confinement. By denying him treatment for 11 years, they are torturing him for the last 11 years."

 

CALL TO THE PUBLIC OPINION

 

Calling on the people for awareness, mother İşçi said: "They must stop attacking our children. They are not made of stone. We wouldn't trade a single hair on their head for the world. Release the sick prisoners. What harm can a sick person do to you? I am calling on all the families of prisoners and human's rights organisations. See this cruelty and let the world know."
