ISTANBUL - Noting that the target of the attacks against Northern and Eastern Syria was the idea of democratic and autonomous administration, Middle East Expert Journalist Musa Özuğurlu said: "A possible ground operation would cause Turkey to lose."

Turkey's attacks on Zap, Avaşîn and Metina regions have left their 7th month behind. Unable to get the desired result here, Turkey continues its airstrikes launched on November 20 against Northern and Eastern Syria. In the attacks carried out by warplanes and Armed Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (SİHA), especially the infrastructure of the region and the institutions providing services were targeted, the Qamishlo Prison where ISIS members were housed and the Hol Camp where their families were staying were also the targets of the attacks.

Middle East Expert Musa Özuğurlu made evaluations about the attacks on Rojava and the developments in the Middle East.

TURKEY PROVIDES FINANCE

Noting that the organizations there were financed by some countries, Özuğurlu said: “These organizations are paid monthly. It is stated that this finance is provided from Qatar. Turkey is financing. Of course, trying to provide this finance reveals various economic relations in that region. This includes smuggling, kidnapping, ransom, racketeering, there is also a war to dominate some businesses or commercial forms in that region; therefore, it is necessary to look at the war between these groups and between them and HTS from one side. it should be noted that there were some demonstrations with Turkey giving the message of getting closer or normalizing its relations with Syria before because these organisations have begun to think that their financial grounds will be lost and even the legitimacy they have put forward will disappear.”

TURKEY IS FEARING THE IDEA OF DEMOCRATIC AUTONOMY

Drawing attention to the reason behind Turkey's attacks against Northern and Eastern Syria, Özuğurlu said: "Turkey sees the YPG as a danger to itself. Turkey has taken refuge in some thoughts under the thought of national security. How appropriate this is to the realities of the field is not a separate discussion topic. Turkey really has such a justification, they think of it in the long term. On the other hand, the developments in the region, in Syria, increase Turkey's concerns about the future. In fact, I see it this way: Operations of this kind in Syria are not about the present, but about the future because any gain in Syria, that is, the SDF gaining an agreement with the Syrian administration or in another way, is a democratic self-government model that will spread to Turkey in the future. Turkey's anxiety and fear is the idea of Democratic Autonomy."

IT IS AN OPERATION ABOUT FUTURE

Pointing out that the attacks against Northern and Eastern Syria are future-oriented, Özuğurlu said: “Turkey does not want an autonomous formation there. It doesn't want this more about the future either :therefore, it is not an operation for the present, but an operation for the future. For example, if Russia really gives a guarantee to Turkey, or if Syria does, Turkey might consider not carrying out such operations but this time it turns out: Even if someone disappears, the government will consider making moves with domestic politics. So these may take a while. However, giving this guarantee and withdrawing from certain regions in line with the proposals of Russia in the negotiations between the SDF and Russia will also eliminate the legitimate operation ground for Turkey. Russia is already trying to use this against Turkey; therefore, I see the operations there as both about the future and about the current domestic politics.”

THERE ARE SERIOUS OBJECTIONS AGAINST OPERATION

Underlining that there are very serious objections to Turkey's threat of a ground operation against Northern and Eastern Syria, Özuğurlu said: “The statement that we are strongly against, as stated in the phone call by the US Lloyd Austi with the Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar, is really one of the important objections for Turkey. One of the other is Russia's objection, the third is Iran's objection, and the fourth is Syria's objection, and the fifth is the SDF's statements that we will respond this time. Now, if we pay attention, the recent developments, for example, the article by Mazlum Abdi in The Washington Post actually reflects the opinion of the American administration because The Washington Post means the White House in America; therefore, the fact that such an article was published there is actually an American opinion. For this reason, it is possible to say that the probability of Turkey's attack is very low compared to the previous one."
