NEWS CENTER - Welcoming the January 10 Working Journalists' Day in prison, imprisoned journalists emphasized that they are on the trail of the truth and sent the message "We will continue to protect the honor of journalism".

 

According to Dicle Fırat Journalists' Association (DFG) data, 87 journalists greet the Working Journalists' Day on January 10 in prison. 16 journalists arrested in Diyarbakır on June 16, 2022 and 9 journalists arrested in Ankara on October 29, 2022 are among the journalists who met January 10 in prison. Mesopotamia Agency (MA) Editor-in-Chief Diren Yurtsever, Berivan Altan, Ceylan Şahinli, Deniz Nazlım, Emrullah Acar, Hakan Yalçın and Selman Güzelyüz, and JINNEWS reporters Habibe Eren were sent to Sincan Women's Closed Prison and High Security Prison after being arrested as part of an Ankara-based investigation and Öznur Değer sent a message on January 10th.

 

'THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE IN PLACE TO REPORT TRUTH'

 

Öznur Değer sent the following message: “While Turkey is at the top of the list of countries where the most journalists are held, it was unthinkable that the Free Press would not get its share. The Free Press faced pressure for many periods, but it never stopped following the truth. We are also journalists and we will continue to follow the truth. For a journalist, there is no difference between a place to report the truth. Wherever we are, we will continue to do journalism. We will continue to protect the honor of the profession of journalism."

 

ALTAN: SOLIDARITY MUST GROW

 

Serdar Altan, co-chairperson of the Dicle Fırat Journalists Association (DFG), who is being held in Diyarbakır No. 2 High Security Prison, sent a message to his family on the occasion of January 10. Reminding that the journalists won their personal rights in 1962 with a great struggle against the bosses, Altan said: "The rights gained since that date are the target. The attacks on the rights gained, the pressure, detention, censorship and rights violations against journalists have never stopped. We welcomed January 10 as a 'day of resistance'. The governments make every effort not to employ us journalists who insist on the truth. In the 1990s, they wanted to achieve this by murdering Free Press employees in the middle of the street; however, when they failed, they threw the judiciary stick. They put it into operation. They closed the places where we worked. They confiscated our equipment; however, we did not take a step back against any attack. We met on January 10 in prison with 86 of our colleagues. Even though we are imprisoned, our struggle to write the truth continues. We know that there are journalists who do not let their pen be broken despite all kinds of pressure and who have the courage to write against the threat of prison also gives strength to our struggle. We hope even more. The days when we will turn January 10 into a 'celebration day' by expanding solidarity are near. I congratulate all my colleagues on January 10 Working Journalists' Day."
