AMED – Delegates who participated in the referendum where the DEM Party's candidates were determined demanded the physical freedom of Abdullah Ocalan.

People's Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) held referendums in lots of centers for the mayors they will nominate in the March 31 Local Government elections. The referendum held in Amed also ended the other day. Thousands of delegates went to the polls in the city.

DELEGATES WERE SATISFIED

Abdulaziz Acer, one of the voting delegates, stated that the referendum decision was appropriate. Pointing out that there is still work to be done to develop democracy, Acer said: "Mr. Abdullah Ocalan proposed the local government model years ago. However, our party was late in putting it into practice. The Kurds and politics must understand Mr. Ocalan. Our party's primary election decision is appropriate."

'IT WAS THE SYSTEM SUGGESTED BY ABDULLAH OCALAN'

Noting that the referendum decision was a reflection of the accumulation of Kurdish politics, Seyda Arkan said: "It was a system suggested by the Kurds’ Leader Mr. Abdullah Ocalan. The way to a strong democracy, self-government and recognition is achieved through a strong local government. Holding these elections is sacred."

CALL FOR 'FREEDOM FOR OCALAN'

Menice Akbaş, one of the delegates, drew attention to the isolation imposed in İmralı and said: “Abdullah Ocalan is sacrificing his life for this people. We too must fight for their freedom, regardless of whether young or old. No Kurd can say 'I am free' unless Mr. Ocalan is free. Our freedom is our identity, and this identity is Mr. Ocalan.”

Expressing her satisfaction with the referendum, Hatun Dündar said: "Actually, this idea belongs to Mr. Ocalan. The people adopt and implement his ideas. We must protect our language and culture. No problem will be solved unless Mr. Ocalan is free."

Stating that they are always behind the DEM Party, Servet Dündaralp said: "Will this oppression continue until the end of time? Enough is enough. Mr. Ocalan must be freed as soon as possible and the Kurds must rise for his freedom. We must fight until the last drop of our blood."

‘WE WILL NOT REMAIN SILENT AGAINST TRUSTEES'

Çerkez Gözen said: "Now is not the time to remain silent" and emphasized that there is a need to fight for democracy. Gözen pointed out that such a vote means "a lesson in democracy" and said: "The trusteeship itself is a fascist mentality. It is also a dark mentality. If they do not know us, we do not know them."

Stating that they will not remain silent against the trustees, Veysi Nazlıer said: "No matter how many trustees they appoint to the municipalities, we will still take over our municipality."
