ÊLIH - It was stated that the prisoners on hunger strike in Samsun Kavak Type S Prison were subjected to pressure and their essential needs were not met.

The international campaign launched to demand the freedom of PKK Leader Abdullah Ocalan continues. Political prisoners in prisons, who started a hunger strike to support the campaign, have been on a rotating hunger strike for 75 days.

It was stated that the prisoners in Samsun Kavak Type S High Security Prison, where the prisoners were on hunger strike, were subjected to oppression and rights violations.

Lalihan Kurt, mother of prisoner Seyfettin Kurt, said that the prison administration did not even meet the essential needs of the prisoners in hunger strike. Regarding the isolation of the PKK Leader, where thousands of prisoners in prisons did not accept this situation and started a hunger strike, Kurt said: “His lawyers and his family need to meet with Abdullah Ocalan. What would happen if his family and the lawyer saw him? For God’s sake, what kind of cruelty is this? This isolation must end immediately."

Stating that the prisoners on hunger strike are not given the sugar and fruit juice they have to consume, Kurt said: “When the prisoners ask why, no reason is given. In addition, my son also stated that the pressure in prisons continues. My son stated that they will not bow to the pressure and will resist, also called for public awareness."

'SALUTE TO THOSE WHO RESIST'

Noting that the resistance in prisons is growing, mother Kurt said: "We want peace, they say 'no'." We want equality, they say 'no'. We say let the deaths stop, they say 'no'. We should not be the only ones demanding peace. Soldier mothers should also want peace. The children of those who sent soldier mother’s children to the military are living happily. They send their children abroad. Why don't they send their own children to war? Military mothers should ask this. This war has been going on for more than 40 years. So many people died, but soldiers' mothers still say 'for the sake of country'. Soldier mothers should also call for peace now. We are all mothers and it tear our heart out. Our children are our honour. Their resistance is the same. A thousand greetings to my son and his friends who did not step back and resisted in prison. The Kurds need to see this resistance and take an equivalent step."
