AMED – AKP is preparing for the elections in Kurdistan in partnership with the MHP. Only 3 of the 248 names announced as mayoral candidates by the AKP, are women.

There is little time left for the elections in Turkey and Kurdistan on March 31, where local administrators will be elected. While the parties announce their candidates to a large extent, it is noteworthy that the majority of the announced names are men.
In the 2019 local elections, only 45 of 1389 mayors were women. This number is expected to decrease further in this election. The candidates of the parties that received the most votes in the previous elections in Kurdistan have also become largely clear.
People's Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) is preparing for the elections with the co-chairship system. One man and one woman will nominate a candidate for mayor in all centres. AKP, on the other hand, is preparing for the elections with male candidates in the cities of Kurdistan. Only 3 of the 248 candidates nominated so far by the AKP, which will enter the elections in partnership with the MHP, are women; Dîlok (Antep) Metropolitan Municipality Mayor candidate Fatma Şahin, Îdir (Iğdır) Mayor candidate Ulkü Ocal and Bismil Mayor candidate Behiye Güneri Arslan. All other names are male.
