Rojhilat resistance: Perspective on women has changed

NEWS CENTER - Journalists in Iran pointed out that the "Jin, Jîyan, Azadî" resistance created a change in men and said: "After the resistance, men's perspective on women in Iran changed."

The resistance, which started with the slogan "Jin, Jîyan, Azadî" after Jîna Emînî, who was murdered by the Iranian regime on September 16, 2022, gained momentum day by day and began to spread to all cities. Following the resistance, dozens of people were executed, hundreds were murdered and thousands were arrested. Women, who did not step back despite the pressures of the Iranian regime, turned every place into a field of resistance and demanded rights and freedom. In addition to women, men who witnessed the Iranian government's massacres and torture of women also took part in this resistance. During this process, dozens of journalists, academics and artists were also detained and arrested.

Journalist H.Z., one of the women who took part in the resistance and who concealed her name for security reasons, explained that she was detained, arrested and tortured on November 24, 2022. Stating that she witnessed widespread protests led by women for the first time in Iran and Rojhilat, H.Z. stated that previous protests were generally due to economic and political conditions and participation was limited. Stating that women were generally left in the shadows and played a minor role in these protests, H.Z. said: "This revolution is a women's revolution for the struggle that took place after the murder of Jîna Emînî.”

'POLITICIANS SAVED THEIR INTERESTS'

Stating that their resistance was also supported by women around the world, but the politicians' support remained superficial, H.Z. said: “In practice, they left the Iranian people alone. Many people are still being executed or are in danger of being executed for supporting the revolution. However, they left the Iranian people alone. "Women around the world are generally careful when it comes to rights, but politicians do not pay much attention to human rights issues due to their economic interests."

Underlining that their only goal is to save women from the yoke of the Islamic State, H.Z. emphasized that they will continue to struggle in different ways and said: “Revolutions take time. Maybe people are quiet now, but no matter what happens, we will definitely be on the streets again."

'THE PEOPLE OF ROJHILAT KNOW THEMSELVES'

Journalist Şêro Ûrmîye also shared his observations about the men who took part in the resistance in Rojhilat and Iran. Noting that the situation in Iran changed 100 percent after the resistance, Ûrmiye stated that the resistance within women showed itself in the squares. Stating that although women pioneered the slogan "Jin, Jîyan, Azadî", men were also the essence of this resistance, Ûrmiye said that the people of Rojhilat recognized themselves after the resistance.

ABDULLAH OCALAN'S IDEA

Stating that Kurd women and men have been fighting together for 45 years, Ûrmiye commented on the formation of the resistance around the slogan "Jin, Jîyan, Azadî" as follows: "No one came and said, 'Why does this slogan only talk about women?' Because they saw the pain women experienced. As Mr. Abdullah Ocalan said, ‘Society cannot be liberated until women are liberated.’ The belief of the Iranian people has reached this idea. Arm in arm, men and women fight together against this oppression that has been inflicted on them for years. They didn't see any difference in it. For example, when a woman was attacked on the street, men would go out to the street and defend the woman arm in arm. When men were detained, women stood against that oppression with their chants, voices and colors. There iss no difference between men and women in this revolution."

CHANGE IN MEN

Stating that men's view of women in Iran changed after the resistance, Ûrmiye said: “We cannot say that the mentality that views women as 'slaves' has changed 100 percent in Rojhılat Kurdistan, but there is a significant change. When there is an attack on a woman's clothing, we see that the woman's husband, father and brother also stand against the government against that attack. Men see that the slogan 'Jin, Jîyan, Azadî' is not just 3 words. For the men, this is a slogan against oppression. The motto of both men and women. When we look at Iranian society, men also use that slogan a lot. This slogan is used against the tyranny of the Iranian government."

Stating that after the resistance, everyone everywhere spoke their opinions without fear, Ûrmiye said: “The Iranian people will no longer return to the old years. Women in particular are leading society at this point. Women give that courage to men."

PERCEPTION AGAINST KURDS HAS CHANGED

Stating that the perception that was intended to be created against the Kurds after the resistance is broken, Ûrmiye said, “The Iranian government was portraying the Kurds as bad and dangerous. It was frightening the people by saying 'Kurds want to disintegrate Iran'. This idea changed when the Kurds staged a great resistance in the cities of Kurdistan. We can say that there is a unity among the Iranian people against the government."

'THE MOST IMPORTANT THING FOR KURDS IS IDENTITY'

Stating that the biggest opposition against the Iranian regime took place in the cities of Kurdistan, Ûrmiye said: “Kurd identity is important for Kurds right now. Since the resistance started in Rojhilat, the government is putting pressure on the Kurds. The government's pressure is more on Kurds and Baluchis. But this did not scare the Kurds. They carry out their discourses, ideas and ideologies against domination."
