ÊLIH - A “Democracy and Freedom” rally was organized in Êlih to demand the lifting of the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan and his physical freedom and the solution of the Kurdish issue.
Democratic Institutions Platform organized a rally for “Democracy and Freedom” at Dörtyol Junction in Êlih (Batman). Preparations started early in the morning for the rally, which was organized to demand the lifting of the isolation in İmralı, the physical freedom of Abdullah Öcalan, the solution of the Kurdish issue and against the trustees appointed to the municipalities.
Women gathered at Yılmaz Güney Park under the leadership of the Free Women's Movement (TJA) and marched towards the rally area. Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Co-Chair Çiğdem Kılıçgün Uçar, Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları and TJA activist Ayla Akat Ata also took part in the march. Women carried the banner “Women resist against isolation” and chanted “Jin, jiyan, azadî (Woman, life, freedom)”.
Many cities also participated in the rally. Citizens gathered at Diyarbakır Street and Hasankeyf Intersection and stood halaya for a long time. Then they entered the rally area with a march. They carried banners reading “This is a public warning; empty the municipalities”, “No passage for trustees, trusteeship is plunder”, “Co-mayorship is our purple line” and “The solution and the interlocutor are both clear”.
