ŞIRNEX - Arrest warrants were issued for 3 people in the case of Temer Temel, who was killed in an armed attack in Elkê district.
The retrial on the death of 50-year-old Temer Temel, who was killed in front of his house in Setkar village of Elkê (Beytüşşebap) district of Şirnex (Şırnak) province on 7 May 2023, started.
Lezgin Temel, İskender Temel and Hakkı Temel, who were released after their arrest and whose acquittal verdicts were overturned on appeal, did not attend the first hearing of the retrial.
The hearing held at Şırnak 3rd High Criminal Court was attended by Peoples' Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party Şirnex MP Zeki İrmez, Democratic Regions Party (DBP) and DEM Party politicians. Temel's family and lawyers were also present at the hearing.
During the hearing which started with identification, Temel family's lawyers demanded the recusal of the judge. Rejecting the request, the court decided to issue an arrest warrant for the defendants. The next hearing was adjourned to 6 October.
A statement was made in front of the courthouse after the hearing. Zeki İrmez from DEM Party said, "Temer Temel was a member of our party, he was murdered in an armed attack in front of his house. The local court acquitted the defendants. The court of appeal overturned the decision of the local court and decided to retry the case. This was an appropriate decision, the hearing was held today. We will follow this case, we will fight until the defendants receive the necessary punishment."
