AMED – People’s Labour Party (HEP) Amed (Diyarbakır) Provincial Chair Vedat Aydin, who was mudered by JITEM, sommemorated at his grave. Speaking here DEM Party Women’s Assembly Spokesperson Halide Turkoglu said that they will build the democratic society desired by those who paid the price.
Vedat Aydın, who was murdered after being detained by Gendarmerie Intelligence and Antı-terror Unit (JİTEM) in Amed on 5 July 1991, was commemorated at his grave on the occasion of Eid al-Adha. The visit to Vedat Aydın's grave in Mardinkapı Cemetery in Yenişehir district was attended by executives of MEBYA-DER, Aydın's family, Peoples' Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party Women's Assembly Spokesperson Halide Türkoğlu, Democratic Regions Party (DBP) provincial co-chairs, municipality co-chairs and many people.
Aydin’s brother Veysi Aydin wished that the holiday would lead to honourable peace and said: “Today a process is underway and we want this process to evolve into peace. We have come to this day with the labour of our peace martyrs. Their struggle will guide us."
DEM Party Amed Provincial Co-Chair Abbas Şahin said, “Those who pave the way for coexistence set an example to the world. We will support the path opened by Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan and continue to explain the democratic society.”,
Lastly, DEM Party Women's Assembly Spokesperson Halide Turkoglu stated that they were not only commemorating but also demanding accountability. Reminding that the murder of Vedat Aydın was the beginning of the unsolved murders, she stressed: “This struggle will be crowned with peace. We are struggling for this. These costs will ensure the construction of a democratic society.”
The commemoration ended with the placing of carnations on Aydın’s grave.
