İSTANBUL- Attorney Necdet Okcan who commented on the arrest of Dev Yapı-İş Union leader Özgür Karabulut’s and the 33 labourer’s arrests who were working for the third airport construction said “Its not judicial, its political”, “The arrests are the governments will.”

 

33 labourers and union leader Özgür Karabulut got arrested because they protested the labour conditions. Gaziosmanpaşa Prosecution Office gave arrest warrants for 404 labourers. The attorney of Dev Yapı-iş union and the workers said the arrests are an lawful and arbitrary.

 

THEIR ARRESTS ARE POLITICAL 

 

Attorney Necdet Okcan , stating the workers have protested the bad labour and harbouring conditions as well as many other negations, said “ While those were very legit protests, within their rights prescribed by the constitution and the international agreements, they tried to quell the protests with anti-riot water cannons, pepper gas and smoke grenades. This was done with the instruction given by the government. Then they made the workers stand trial for hollow and unfair accusations. They created virtual sensations and criminalized the protests. Non of the arrests are judicial, they all got arrested for political reasons instructed by the government.

 

ARREST WARRANTS FOR 404 WORKERS 

 

Okcan reminding the arrest warrants for 404 labourers, said many of them got released afterwards. Okcan: “They are threatening the labourers in order fort hem to step backwards, they are scaring them into not being a member to a union, protecting their own rights. They are saying claiming one’s right ends up in employment termination, even in jail. “

 

Okcan ended his words by saying :” This was not the first protest, and will not be the last.”
