İZMİR - TTB Central Council Member Mübeccel İlhan who stated that the treatments of the hunger striking prisoners must be carried out in the hospital, said involving independent committees in the treatment process would work better for both parties.

 

The hunger strikes was called of with the call of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan on May 26. An algorithm was published by Turkish Medical Association (TTB) regarding the treatment process of the activists. However, information about the algorithm not being followed came from different cities.

 

TTB Central Council Member Mübeccel İlhan who drew attention to the importance of the treatment process,said as a  professional organization defending the right to life, they are following up on the treatment process of more than 200 hunger striking prisoners.

 

 

İlhan who stated that independent committees are utmost importance regarding the follow up on the treatment process of the prisoners, said: "In terms of monitoring the process of hunger strikes, we stated that the follow-up of independent delegations was the right thing to do and we relayed our request to the ministry. The monitoring of the process by independent delegations facilitates communication on both sides. Even though we do everything right in this process, bleeding and edema my occur as a result of the treatment. Because there are no independent committees both the families and the attorneys have issues of trust. In this context, I want to repeat that involving independent committees in this process would work for both parties."
