İSTANBUL - Attorneys stating that they did not recieve any respond to their applications to visit their client, PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan for 2 months after their 4 meetings, said: "The process of not recieving a response to our applications is a negative process. This is the continuation of the old ways."

 

The lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan met with their clients on May 2 after a 200-day hunger strike led by the Democratic Society Congress (DTK) co-chair Leyla Güven. The attorneys who made 3 more visits on May 22, June 12 and 18, haven't been getting any response to their applications for 2 months.

 

'IMRALI IS ISOLATION ALL ON ITS OWN'

 

Attorney Cengiz Yürekli who stated that the isolation was not removed between May 2 and June 18, said: "The fact that a few meetings took place between Mr. Öcalan and his attorneys, does not mean the isolation policy is over. As his attorneys, we never claimed that the isolation is over with 1-2 hours meetings once every 20 days.he Imrali system itself is already an isolation system. As long as the İmralı system is there, there are conditions of isolation, no matter how many visits you make. In this sense, of course, it is very important that the lawyers go as a channel and Mr. Öcalan's addressing the society is to keep this channel open.  This should be approached in such a way referring to a serious value. However, the positive environment that creates healthy, working conditions for Mr. Öcalan should be secured as well as a channel for him to address the society must be kept open. The situation needs to be approached with this awareness and sensitivity."
