DİYARBAKIR - HDP former Co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş said: "Let's pave the way for peace that will bring delight to the hearts of all mothers", regarding the mothers doing a sit in in front of Diyarbakır HDP building.

People's Democratic Party (HDP) Co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş addressed the mothers doing a sit in in front of Diyarbakır HDP building through Mesopotamia Agency (MA).

"Families who stated that their children have gone to the mountains to join PKK or kidnapped by PKK have been doing a sit in in front of HDP Diyarbakır Provincial Building for a while now.  Despite the limited media opportunities, we are trying to follow the process from prison. I would like to address a few points, feeling responsible for sharing my thought with the public.

First and foremost, a mother's wish to reunite with their children is rightful and legitimate. . It is a natural request that will be respected in a way free from any question of intent. Therefore, the wish of the mothers should be upheld regardless of any political interests or discussions. Politics must solve the daily problems of the people and touch their lives. If politics can't do that, its good for nothing.

There are many arguements about these families objectives to be there. People tend to think that they are being directed to the HDP building by the government, they are trying to cover up the reaction against the trustees, they are being used for the government's political purposes, they are trying to criminalize HDP. Ofcourse there is truth in all these arguements. However this does not change the legitimacy of the mother's wish to unite with their children. The fact that these families are doing this sit in in the wrong place doesn't make them wrong.  The fact that the real responsibility is the government's, does not require us to miss the essence of the issue.

We have to understand calmly the mothers who accuse HDP wrongly. We have to understand their reaction even though HDP doesn't have anything to do with their children joining PKK or the government officials being detained by PKK. Because in fact, these people are asking HDP's help. HDP cannot escape from searching for a solution because it has no responsibility for the emergence of the problem. This is not how HDP operates.Besides, HDP spokespeople often emphasizes that already. But those who have other purposes then meeting the needs of these mothers are doing everything they can to silence these calls. HDP needs to remain calm, principled and moral, and focus on lasting solutions which they have been doing all these time. I wanted to remind that one more time."
