NEWS CENTER - Speaking about Erdogan's signal of attack on Northern and Eastern Syria, YPG Spokesperson Nuri Mehmud said, "We want to state that we will resist against any attacks to the destroy our gains and we have the strength to do so."
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, with his statements and the decision taken by the National Security Council (MGK), gave the signal of a new attack against Northern and Eastern Syria. YPG Spokesperson Nuri Mehmud spoke to Özgür Politika newspaper about Turkey's possible attack plans.
Nuri Mehmud, who said that Erdogan's main goal is to reach the borders of the National Pact and to revive the Ottoman Empire under the name of the Erdogan empire, stated that Erdogan wanted to enter North-East Syria 30 kilometers deep in order to realize his dreams. Nuri Mehmud, who added that Turkey's aim was the National Pact even while acting with ISIS and other terrorist organisations, noted that the plan failed with the Rojava Revolution resistance.
'TURKEY AIM IS REVIVING ISIS'
Nuri Mehmud said, "We take the invasion attempts and threats seriously because we know that Erdogan has no other choice but war." This time, it will definitely not be like Rojava, Afrin, Serêkaniyê and Girê Spî. Erdogan is making these threats with a certain plan. With Erdogan's threats, ISIS also took action. It has increased its attacks. There is a huge mobility, especially in the Hol Camp. In the camp, they are trying to revive ISIS again by causing chaos. Turkey and ISIS are working in parallel. While Erdogan is trying to silence the contradictory voices inside Turkey with these threats and attempts of attack it is also trying to create a justification for the invasion attempt by activating ISIS at the same time. Russia is trying to gather power by using the opportunities that emerged in the Ukraine war and the attitudes of international powers towards Iran as a NATO member, and so there is an attempt to eliminate the gains of the Kurdish people and the revolution in Rojava and the North-East Syrian Autonomous Region, which was developed together with different peoples. It is necessary to emphasize the following fact; Turkey is not as powerful as it used to be; however, there is an effort to reach their goals with the support of Europe and NATO."
'WE WILL PROTECT OUR GAINS, WE HAVE THE STRENGTH'
Underlining that the Rojava forces are prepared, Nuri Mehmud said, "If we consider North-East Syria only as the SDF, its backbone YPG, YPJ and Anti-Terror Teams, it would be a mistake. Rojava is preparing to defend its gains with all its institutions. We are very assertive on this issue. Rojava sends the message that it will stand up to Turkey's attacks with all its institutions. Morale, motivation and determination to protect itself is at the highest level both in the military units, in all our institutions and in all of our people. We will resist any attack against our achievements until the end. And we want to underline that we have the power to do so.”
'WE WILL RETURN TO PLACES WHERE WE HAVE WITHDRAWN'
Stating that they withdrew their YPG forces so that there would be no war, but always kept them ready for attacks, Nuri Mehmud said: "Plans to return to the places where they have withdrawn in case of any attack are ready. Some agreements have been made before to avoid conflicts. However, Turkey does not adhere to this agreement. It violates this agreement by bombarding the region continuosly. Every day, our citizens are killed by advanced NATO aircrafts, without discriminating between soldiers, civilians and children. Turkey's attacks have made these agreements dysfunctional. If the attacks continue like this, the agreement will be completely destroyed.
In order not to cause conflicts, our forces which we have withdrawn will re-organise themselves in all areas. We have already made all our preparations accordingly. We aim to fulfill all our duties without hesitation to protect the North-East Syrian Revolution."
'WE SHOULD UNITE, WE WILL WIN'
Nuri Mehmud said: "The Kurds are going through a very important time and they expect all Kurdish forces to fulfill their responsibilities in order not to lose. Every Kurd has a responsibility to take a step that will lead the Kurds to success and freedom.
In other words, we are satisfied with the attitude of all Southern Kurds, except for the KDP. Only the KDP sided with Turkey or remains silent on what Turkey is doing. All parties seem to be united, except for the KDP. Although they do not take a grandiose stance as the plan demands, we are generally satisfied with their union. Undoubtedly, we are going through a very important period. The Kurdish people must demonstrate unity and revolutionary spirit they experienced in the Kobanê resistance against possible new attacks and invasion attempts.
At the moment, the Kurdish people are in a struggle of survival. Just as we will win big, there is also the risk of losing very big. The Turkish state wants to destroy the existence of the Kurdish people and to eliminate their identity. Regardless of where they are in the world, the Kurds should organise themselves with the Kurdistan revolution. We expect them to show their reactions by staying within the legal framework where they live, and to come together around the Kurdistan Revolution and Rojava Revolution."
