ISTANBUL - The hearing of the case in which 46 journalists and media workers were tried for their professional activities in Istanbul was postponed.
The 25th hearing of the case, known as the "KCK Press Case", in which 46 journalists and media workers are on trial, was held at the 3rd High Criminal Court of Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan. While the journalists and media workers on trial did not attend the hearing, their attorneys Gülizar Tuncer, Özcan Kılıç, Hüseyin Boğatekin, Sercan Korkmaz and Merve Turhan were present.
At the hearing, which started after the identification, the court stated that the arrest warrant issued for İsmet Kayhan was not executed. After the identification, the court board allowed the prosecution and the defense speak. The prosecution and the attorneys demanded remediation. Attorney Sercan Korkmaz, on the other hand, reminded that the Chief Public Prosecutor Bilal Bayraktar, who initiated an investigation against journalists, is under investigation by the Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK) due to the proceedings during this investigation, and demanded that the results of the investigation be included in the file.
Announcing its interim decision, the court decided to wait for the arrest warrant issued earlier against Kayhan and to accept the excuses of some attorneys of the journalists. In addition, the Court stated that the HSK General Secretariat requested information about the ongoing trial against journalists due to the disciplinary investigation launched against prosecutor Bayraktar; therefore, it decided to announce the outcome of the hearing and to accept Korkmaz's request about Bayraktar. The court adjourned the hearing to November 1.
