MERSIN -  A lawsuit was filed against Mersin Metropolitan Municipality employee M.Y. on the allegation of "being a member of an organization" for participating in the HDP Youth Council Congress.

A lawsuit was filed against Mersin Metropolitan Municipality employee M.Y. on the allegation of "being a member of a terrorist organization". The indictment prepared by the Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office was accepted by the Mersin 2nd High Court. In the indictment, the cine-vision screening at the HDP Youth Assembly's congress and the slogans "Biji serok Apo" chanted in the hall were cited as evidence of crime. M.Y. was charged with "membership in a terrorist organization" even though he was not
seen in any of the videos taken during the congress.

'PARTICIPATING IN A CONGRESS IS NOT A CRIME'

Evaluating the accusation in the indictment, M.Y.'s lawyer Ali Bozan stated that his client was detained as a result of the operation carried out against the workers working in Mersin Metropolitan Municipality in October and a lawsuit was filed against him. Noting that M.Y. was accused of "being a member of a terrorist organization" on the grounds that he attended the HDP Youth Council meeting held in Diyarbakır, Atty. Bozan said, "M.Y., who should not even be detained in any way, is the main reason for filing a lawsuit with this accusation because he works as a worker in Mersin Metropolitan Municipality. Attending a meeting open to the public and the press cannot be evidence of the accusation of membership in an organization. The aim was to ensure the dismissal of especially Kurdish workers working in the municipality and to create a perception about the municipality through these workers. Unfortunately, at this stage, the judicial organs also made them use themselves as the stick of the political power. This is an indication that the judicial authorities sometimes serve the purposes of the political institution."
