İZMİR - TBB President Erinç Sağkan and bar association presidents will launch a Justice Watch in front of the courthouse on December 26 for HDP employee Deniz Poyraz who was murdered in İzmir.
The bar associations who have been staging a Justice Watch for the imprisoned journalists arrested in the Cumhuriyet Newspaper Case in 2017 will continue the Justice Watch for Deniz Poyraz this month. Deniz Poyraz was killed as a result of an attack against Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) İzmir Provincial building on June 17, 2021. The sit-in within the scope of the Justice Watch will take place on December 26 at 13.00 in front of the Izmir Courthouse C Block gate. Erinç Sağkan, President of the Union of Turkish Bar Associations (TBB) and heads of many bar association and lawyers, as well as HDP Co-Chair Mithat Sancar and representatives of non-governmental organizations will participate in the sit-in.
YILMAZ: INSTIGATORS MUST BE IDENTIFIED
Hosting the sit-in, Sefa Yılmaz, head of İzmir Bar Association underlined the importance of ensuring the fundamental rights and freedoms and to stand up against all unlawfulness. Pointing out to the fact that the true background of the incident is being covered up, Yılmaz said: "The instigators behind this murder must be identified. This murder was not planned and carried out by only one person. This has to be done to ensure the trust of the society in justice. We want the 6th High Criminal Court to investigate the forces behind this massacre with an independent and impartial trial.”
Yılmaz emphasised that as the İzmir Bar Association, they will continue to resist and called for participation in the sit-in as follows: "We call on all segments of society that believes in democratic values, the rule of law, the fraternity of peoples, the values of the republic, the independence and impartiality of the judiciary, and supports women, children, the environment and LGBT+. Everyone will need justice one day."
