ANKARA- Relatives of the prisoners on indefinite and non-alternating hunger strike in Ereğli Prison stated that their condition has worsened and that they tried to communicate with the prison administration, but they received the answer that "the principal is on vacation, you cannot see him".
The 10-day indefinite-rotating hunger strike of prisoners on October 4 against rights violations and severe isolation conditions in Konya Ereğli High Security Prison continues indefinite and nonrotating since November 16. While the situation of the prisoners on hunger strike is getting worse day by day, the relatives of the prisoners who called the prison got the answer, "The principal is on vacation, you can't see him".
'THEIR CONDITION IS GETTING WORSE'
Calling the prison administration to learn about his condition, the mother of prisoner Mehmet Can Yiger said: "When we went to the prison for a public visit, their situation was not good. The prisoners who went on the first hunger strike were very weak. They kept saying that they forgot something while talking to us. I think they started to lose their memory. Their condition is getting worse and worse. We wanted to talk to the prison director and the prosecutor when we left the meeting. The officials told us that they are in a meeting and we should leave the campus as soon as possible. They took us out of there. We have been calling to meet with the prison director for the last week, but they keep delaying us. We called on the day they indicated, but they said, 'the principal is on vacation, you can not see him'. We don't know what to do now. Our children's situation is bad and getting worse, but the prison is not responding to the demands of the prisoners and their families, by constantly making excuses."
