İSTANBUL - Osman Kapan, a 30-year prisoner in Bolu Type T Prison, stated that the release of 12 prisoners with him was postponed.
Soldiers raiding the village of Xirabêşeref in the Hezex (İdil) district of Şırnak in 1993 arrested Ahmet Zenger, Osman Kapan, Süleyman Sungur, Ramazan Özalp, Nuri Arı, Abdullah Oflas and Ramazan Özyiğit after they searched houses. The aggravated life sentence given to 7 people on trial at the State Security Court (DGM) for "destroying the unity and integrity of the state" was later converted to life imprisonment.
One of the prisoners, Süleyman Sungur, died in prison and Ramazan Özal, who was an ill prisoner, died 3 months after he was released in 2014. Nuri Arı and Abdullah Oflas were released from İzmir Şakran Type T Prison on February 12, 2023, and Ramazan Özyiğit from Van High Security Prison on February 6.
The sentence of Ahmet Zenger (63), who is being held in Giresun Espiye Type L Closed Prison, was extended for another 6 months on the grounds that he did not accept the imposition of “regret” by the Administration and Observation Board, one week before his release in February.
THE RELEASE OF PRISONER IS POSTPONED FOR THE SECOND TIME
Osman Kapan, who was held in Bolu Type T Prison and whose release was postponed, was burned for the second time in April, when his release was expected. The release of Kapan, who did not accept the imposition of "regret" by the Administration and Observation Board, was postponed and his release was extended for another 3 months. Kapan reported the violations they were exposed to through his family.
MINISTRY OF JUSTICE CIRCULAR
Emphasizing that the circular issued by the Ministry of Justice for ill prisoners is biased, Kapan said: “Kurdish patriotic and revolutionary prisoners, who have been in prison for 20-30 years and whose sentences have normally ended, are not released for the second time by the method of postponing. The release of Erdal Tuncer, one of the Kurdish patriotic revolutionary prisoners whose release has been postponed for more than a year on the grounds of "good behavior" only in Bolu Type T Prison, 5, Adnan Karakaş, Seyfettin Bahar and Osman Aslan 3, Nizam Algünerhan, Fuat Güler, Ferit Orak, Abdülhamit Babat, Mehmet Zahar, Yahya Anık, Musa Şanak and Mehmet İnal were executed for the second time.”
Noting that the prisoners were subjected to the imposition of "remorse", Kapan's letter included the following: "The fascist arbitrary practices against revolutionary prisoners with practices that disregard human rights must be put to an end as soon as possible, and Kurdish patriotic and revolutionary prisoners must be released. The fascist palace regime will not be able to block the lines of resistance of Kurdish patriotic and revolutionary prisoners by postponing heavy prison sentences, persecution, torture and executions.”
It was learned that the prisoners whose release was postponed, mentioned in Kapan's letter, have been arrested for 30 years, and that Nizam Algünerhan and Ferit Orak are on the ill prisoner list of the Human Rights Association (İHD).
