DİYARBAKIR - Journalist İsmail Çoban, the former Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper Azadiya Welat, which was closed down with the Statutory Decree (KHK) on the allegation that some news and articles published in the newspaper between September 4 September 30, 2014 and October 1 October 21, 2014 were "propagandizing for a terrorist organization", was sentenced to 1 year, 6 months and 22 days in prison.
At the hearing held at the Diyarbakır 5th High Criminal Court of the case, which was overturned due to the decision to leave the verdict of the previous sentence of 1 year and 8 months behind, which was due to the sentencing of Çoban from another case, the prosecution repeated the opinion it had given in the previous hearing with a request for punishment. The prosecution demanded the announcement of the prison sentence of 1 year, 8 months and 25 days for Shepherd, and demanded that Çoban be sentenced to prison on the allegation of Article 7/2 of the Anti-Terror Law No. 3713, which regulates the act of "propagandizing for a terrorist organization". The prosecution, arguing that the crime was committed through the press, demanded that the prison sentence to be given to Çoban be increased within the scope of Article 43 of the TCK, which regulates the sentence increase provisions.
1 YEAR 6 MONTHS PRISON
Stating that the prison sentence, which was calculated as 1 year and 8 months in the decision before the case was overturned, was due to a calculation error, the court board corrected the calculation error and sentenced Çoban to 1 year 6 months and 22 days in prison.
