ISTANBUL - Saturday Mothers and human rights defenders who wanted to make a statement in Galatasaray Square, where the blockade was not lifted despite the Constitutional Court's "violation" decision, were detained.
The protest of the Saturday Mothers to inquire about the fate of their relatives disappeared in custody and to demand that the perpetrators be prosecuted continued in the 945th week. Despite the "violation" decisions of the Constitutional Court (AYM), Saturday Mothers and human rights defenders who wanted to make a statement in Galatasaray Square, where the police blockade continued, faced police barriers and attacks this week as well.
The mothers and their accompanying persons were detained after being blockaded in front of the police barriers in the square. The mothers' demonstration of this week was attended by the President of the Turkish Medical Association (TTB) Central Council Prof. Dr. Şebnem Korur Fincancı and lawyer Meriç Eyüpoğlu gave their support. While the mothers, who were besieged with shields, reacted to the police, the journalists who followed the news were prevented from taking pictures.
Then, 23 people were detained, including the Istanbul Branch President of the Saturday Mothers and Human Rights Association (İHD) Gülseren Yoleri.
The names of those detained are as follows: "Hanife Yıldız, Mikail Kırbayır, İrfan Bilgin, Maside Ocak, Hasan Karakoç, Faruk Eren, Filiz Karakuş, Sebla Arcan, Şebnem Korur Fincancı, Gülseren Yoleri, Ümit Efe, Leman Yurtsever, Meryem Göktepe, Gamze Hızlı, Mümtaz Murat Kök, Meriç Eyüboğlu, Erhan Pekçe, Sinan Gökçen, Ali Tosun, Yaşar Demircan, Nimet Tanrıkulu, Hilmiye Öz and Döne Gevher."
