Türkiye is in the top five in drug use

NEWS CENTER - According to the 2022 European Wastewater Report published by the EMCDDA, Turkey is among the top five countries in the world for drug use.
 
The European Monitoring Center for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) has published the European Wastewater Report 2022. In the report, it was revealed with the data that methamphetamine use, which is the most commonly used drug of the last period, increased in Istanbul and Adana. According to the report, the increase in the use of bonsai and then synthetic and chemical drugs increased visibly both in the world and in Turkey under the AKP rule.
 
The report states that methamphetamine use, which was previously seen in Czechia and Slovakia, is now concentrated in Belgium, Cyprus, eastern Germany, Spain and Denmark, Finland, Lithuania and Norway, including Turkey.
 
It was stated that the use of amphetamine and methamphetamine has increased over the years in Turkey in studies conducted on wastewater in 2021 and 2022, and it has become one of the countries with the highest usage.
 
Among the 60 countries where methamphetamine was studied in wastewater, the countries where the use of methamphetamine increased between 2021 and 2022 were listed as follows: Czechia, Latvia, Germany, Turkey and Cyprus.
 
On the other hand, according to the data of the Ministry of Interior, the number of prisoners and convicts for drug crimes increased from 36 thousand to 128 thousand in the last 7 years. According to these data, the number of drug-related prisoners and convicts constitutes one-third of those in prison.
