VAN - 142 people were executed in Iran in May.
The Iranian regime executed 142 people in May alone. According to the Iranian Human Rights Organization's statement, 31 of the executed were Baloch, 22 Kurdish, 9 Turkish and 6 Afghan nationals, while the identity of 37 prisoners could not be determined. Of the 142 executed prisoners, 6 were executed on political charges, 83 on drugs, 47 on murder charges, 4 on rape, 2 on human trafficking and corruption charges.
HIGHEST EXECUTION RATE
According to the data, almost 9 prisoners were executed every two days. This was the highest monthly execution rate since 2015.
At least 307 people were executed in the first 5 months of 2023.
