Deniz Poyraz commemorated: Our struggle for a free country

İZMİR - Deniz Poyraz was commemorated at her grave in the 2nd year of her murder. Speaking at the commemoration, EMEP Chairperson Selma Gürkan said: "We have a word with Deniz, we will continue our struggle until we create a free country."
 
Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) İzmir Provincial Organization commemorated Deniz Poyraz, who was killed by Onur Gencer in the armed attack on the provincial building on June 17, 2021, at his grave in Buca Kaynaklar Cemetery in the second year of his death.
 
Anmaya Deniz Poyraz's family, Green Left Party Co-Spokesperson Çiğdem Kılıçgün Uçar, İbrahim Akın, İzmir MP Burcu Gül Çubuk, Socialist Re-Establishment Party (SYKP) Co-Chair Cavit Uğur, Labor Party (EMEP) Chairperson Selma Gürkan, EMEP MP Sevda Karaca, HDP İzmir provincial and district organizations, Poyraz's lawyer, Peace Mothers and many citizens attended.
 
The commemoration program started with a moment of silence. The slogans “Deniz Poyraz is immortal” and “Our word to the sea will be peace” were shouted frequently.
 
Speaking at the commemoration, Deniz Poyraz's mother, Fehime Poyraz, said that Deniz is not only her daughter, but everyone's daughter. Poyraz said: “My daughter was murdered. I want those who helped the murderer to be punished too. Martyrs are never forgotten, they always live among us. Everyone is Deniz. I see everyone here as Deniz. Jin, jiyan, azadi."
 
'WE WILL CONTINUES OUR STRUGGLE'
 
SYKP Co-Chair Cavit Uğur said: “This murder is a very big one. We saw together what the politicians said after the massacre of Deniz Poyraz. We have seen how this bigoted system thinks of the Kurds and how they will solve the Kurdish problem. They thought they would kill all of us, but here we are. We want to live as equal citizens in our mother tongue. We will continue our struggle until we bring peace, which is Deniz's dream."
 
Speaking on behalf of the peace mothers, Peyruze Kurt emphasized that they will continue their struggle until justice is served in the Deniz Poyraz case, adding that women are life and the life will never end.
