DİYARBAKIR - In the hospital report on seriously ill prisoner Mehmet Emin Özkan, it was stated that the detention was "life-threatening" and that his sentence should be postponed.

 

Mehmet Emin Özkan, an 84-year-old seriously ill prisoner held in Diyarbakır High Security Prison No. 1, was released despite health problems such as heart, blood pressure, toxic goiter, osteoporosis, kidney and intestinal disorders, extreme weight loss, hearing-vision deficit and memory loss. Özkan, who was frequently hospitalized, was referred to the hospital again a while ago, and a new report on his health was prepared.

 

In the "diagnosis" section of the report prepared on Özkan, the detected diseases were listed as follows: Dementia, chronic kidney disease (stage 3), coronary artery, hypertension, heart valve disease, advanced hearing loss, bilateral cataract, toxic modular goiter.

 

REPORT: LIFE OF THE PRISONERS IN DANGER

 

In the conclusion part of the report of the Health Board, it was warned that Özkan could not be held in prison and that his life was in danger. In the section in question, it was stated: "The convict poses a certain danger to his life if his prison sentence is executed, the convict's illness requires constant treatment, the convict is unable to maintain his life alone under the conditions of the penitentiary institution due to the serious illness or disability he is exposed to, It states that it is necessary to postpone it, that annual checks should be made, that the convict's illness constitutes a state of permanent illness, disability and old age written in Article 104/2B of the Turkish Constitution.”

 

After the report, it was learned that Özkan was once again referred to the Istanbul Forensic Medicine Institute for a new report.
