ISTANBUL - Stating that the isolation is not only a problem for the Kurds,Green Left Party MP Özgül Saki said: "Abdullah Öcalan is tolerated because he advocates another vision of a diverse, multilingual and colorful society."

PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, who was brought to Turkey with an international conspiracy on February 15, 1999, has been held in isolation in Imrali Type F High Security Prison for 24 years. Since the intermittent phone call with his brother Mehmet Öcalan on March 25, 2021, no news has been received from him or the prisoners Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş. The visits of the family and lawyers, which are guaranteed by the Constitution, have been turned into an arbitrary practice on Imrali Island.

Özgül Saki, Istanbul MP of the Greens and Left Future Party (Green Left Party), made assessments on the isolation, which has social, political and global effects.

'ISOLATION IS NOT ONLY A PROBLEM OF KURDS'

Stating that the isolation is not only a problem for Abdullah Öcalan and the Kurdish people, Saki said: "It concerns all segments of society. The isolation has become a 'taboo' for the state. Isolation should be talked about and discussed more at the current stage. We must not only wage a legal, but also a political and social struggle against the isolation policies. The isolation policy was put into effect in places where 'fascism' was practiced. The reason for the deepening of the isolation was that the people's demands for freedom, equality and peacefulness in the context of the solution of the Kurdish Question were met. We wanted to prevent the adoption of these demands. The representative of the construction of an equal, free, fair and peaceful world is Abdullah Öcalan. They want to cut off this interaction, so they want to be muted.”

LONGEST ISOLATION IN THE WORLD

Stating that former South African President Nelson Mandela and founding member of the Italian Communist Party Antonio Gramsci were subjected to similar isolation practices, Saki said: “Mussolini never let Gramsic's voice come out and he must be silenced, therefore he must be isolated. Later, the leaders of those struggling in Latin American countries were subjected to severe isolation. But the longest isolation in the world that I have seen and know is the isolation imposed on Abdullah Öcalan. Currently, there is no such example of absolute isolation in the world. Turkey succeeded in creating a great segregation in the society with the isolation policy applied to Abdullah Öcalan. For many years, he made that separation with the media, especially over the Kurdish movement.”

THE ROLE OF INTERNATIONAL FORCES

Drawing attention to the effects of the isolation imposed on Abdullah Öcalan in the context of international relations, Saki said: “The United Nations (MB) European countries and all international agreements say that the isolation is against the law; however, this is tolerated due to the interests of patriarchal capitalism, one state, one nation, one religion fascism because Abdullah Öcalan has a vision and thought of a society in which each can live freely as much as there is political, social and cultural diversity in the society against patriarchal capitalism. The issue of autonomous lives is very important here, and this is a very serious threat to the imperialists. Abdullah Öcalan is allowed to be held in isolation because he advocates the vision of another diverse, multilingual and multicolored society, and that it is likely to materialize.”
