DİYARBAKIR - Stating that the "disciplinary" sentences given to PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan cannot prevent lawyer meetings, lawyer Muharrem Şahin emphasized that the isolation should be taken seriously and that legal organizations should ensure justice."

 

PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, who was brought to Turkey on February 15, 1999 by an international conspiracy with the partnership of global powers, has been held in Imrali Type F High Security Prison for 24 years under severe isolation conditions. There has been no news for 28 months from Ömer Hayri Konar, Veysi Aktaş and Hamili Yıldırım, who are in İmralı Island Prison with Abdullah Öcalan. The applications made by the families and lawyers of PKK Leader Öcalan and other prisoners are either rejected on the grounds of “disciplinary” penalties or left unanswered. The systematized state of not being able to receive news in Imrali continues with a new "disciplinary" penalty.

 

It was revealed that a new "disciplinary" sentence was imposed with the response of Abdullah Öcalan's lawyers on July 10 to the application made by the Bursa Execution Judge on July 18. The judgeship, which did not provide information about the reason and date of the "disciplinary" penalty, also rejected the application of the lawyers.

 

Lawyer Muharrem Şahin, who met with PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan on Imrali Island 15 times as his client, evaluated the Imrali isolation system, the state of not being able to hear about the family and lawyer ban.

 

Stating that the isolation in its pure form is the removal of an individual from the society, his relationship with the society, the communication with the media, his family and his lawyers, Şahin said: "The isolation imposed on Imrali is unlike anything else in the world. This situation has been going on for a long time as a sharp, uninterrupted and absolute lack of communication. When we look at the current legal regulations, there are regulations that will enable Mr. Abdullah Öcalan to establish relations with his family, lawyers and the outside world. There are all kinds of legal regulations in our laws, our laws, that there should be no isolation. The thing that needs to be is the implementation of the laws."

 

'EVERYONE CAN NOT BREATH  WITH ISOLATION'

 

Emphasizing that all the problems in the country have deepened with the aggravation of the isolation, Şahin said: "The main reason for the economic chaos, justice chaos and legal chaos in the society is the isolation in Imrali. Society was breathing during the meeting with Abdullah Öcalan, Şahin said, “Everyone was breathless with the isolation. Isolation has spread everywhere and it continues to get worse. If Mr. Abdullah Öcalan's ideas about 'democratization' had been taken into account, it would have been easier to solve the problems in the Middle East and Turkey today."

 

'WE HAVE TO ENSURE JUSTICE'

 

Stating that isolation was also applied during the times when meetings were held with Abdullah Öcalan, Şahin said, “The reason why the talks are completely interrupted now is to prevent the reflection of his thoughts and ideas on the society. There is no explanation for this in law, democracy or justice. We have only one solution, we have to ensure justice, law and democracy. The government must comply with the demands of the citizens. The state cannot take revenge on its citizens. He cannot approach with thoughts of revenge. Regardless, the state must protect the rights of its citizens. They should ensure their rights and freedoms. That's why this situation needs to be ended as soon as possible."

 

Şahin said the following about the prevention of lawyers and family meetings in İmralı on the grounds of "disciplinary" penalties: "This can be done arbitrarily. In addition, the fact that a prisoner in prison receives a disciplinary punishment does not prevent him from meeting with his lawyer. There is also a legal regulation in this regard.”
