ANKARA - DEM Party Deputy Group Chair Gülüstan Kılıç Koçyiğit, who was attacked in Parliament, said: “It was a premeditated and deliberate attack.” DEM Party Women's Assembly also condemned the attack.

Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Group Deputy Chair Gülüstan Kılıç Koçyiğit made a statement on the attack against her and Turkey Worker Party (TİP)MP Ahmet Şık.

Stating that the attack was planned, Koçyiğit said: “When Ahmet Şık started speaking again after the break, I went to the AK Party Group Chair and told him that they should not do this. I said that it was heading towards violence. While we were saying these things, I saw Alpay (AKP MP) walking towards Ahmet Şık from behind. I intervened. It was a conscious attack that was planned well in advance. This was not an isolated incident. They came with the motive of 'let's attack them, lynch them'. Let's underline this. Alpay Özalan definitely needs to be punished. We will do our best for this.”

'IT IS AN ATTACK ON WOMEN'S WILL'

DEM Party Women's Assembly also condemned the attack. The Women's Assembly made the following statement: “The AKP-MHP male-dominated government has once again demonstrated its war and violence policies in the Parliament. In the General Assembly of the Parliament, which convened extraordinarily upon the call of the opposition regarding the Can Atalay verdict, the deputies of the political power once again demonstrated masculinity.

The government, which has made it a policy to suppress those it cannot defeat politically with violence and bullying, has once again put into practice the policy of suppression to silence the voices of the opposition and women. In the attack, our Deputy Group Deputy Chair Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit was the target of violence by the deputies of the fascist government.

This attack is an indication of the misogynist policies of the AKP-MHP government, which does not produce policies in the face of the increase in violence and massacres against women and attacks women's vested rights every time.

The attack on our comrade Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit is an attack on women's will, color, stance, politics and struggle.

We will not allow the legitimization of unlawfulness, violence against women and the usurpation of will through the apparatus of oppression and force. We do not accept male-state violence at home, on the street, in Parliament, wherever we are, and we raise our struggle.”
