NEWS CENTER - Serxwebûn newspaper announced that it ended its 44-year publishing life with the PKK's decision to dissolve and end the armed struggle. It was stated that Serxwebûn will continue to live and play a role in new media organs in the new period.

Serxwebûn newspaper, identified with the PKK, which decided to dissolve and end the armed struggle with the historic "Call for Peace and Democratic Society" of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, announced in its 521st issue that it has ended its publishing life.

Serxwebûn started its publication life illegally in September 1978, and it's announced to the world the official establishment of the PKK with the headline "On its way out" in its first issue. Serxwebûn, identified with Mazlum Doğan, one of the PKK's pioneering cadres, who was the first soldier of the Free Press, continued its publication life illegally in Bakurê Kurdistan (Nort Kurdistan - Turkey side) from September 1978 until November 1979, and during this period, it was published as an organ with a total of five issues, one main issue and four special issues. Serxwebûn newspaper was affected by the coup d'état of 12 September 1980 and was rendered unpublishable.

Serxwebûn's second period began in July 1981 with the publication of the documents of the PKK's 1st Conference and continued to be published legally in Europe on a monthly basis. Since then, Serxwebûn has met with readers on a monthly basis without interruption. During this time, it published 521 issues, including special issues. And it took its place in history with its 521st issue devoted to the PKK's 12th Congress.

Serxwebûn also shared an article on the decisions taken by the PKK at the historic congress and the end of its publication life. Serxwebûn's article titled "A new beginning" reads:

"The radical change and transformation within the Apoist movement is naturally affecting everyone and every field. The decision made at the 12th Congress to dissolve the PKK’s organizational structure also applies to Serxwebûn, which is as old as the PKK itself. Serxwebûn, the voice of the Contemporary Kurdish Resistance, of brave and heroic Kurds, of a free Kurd and Kurdistan, and of the Women’s Freedom Revolution that left its mark on the 21st century, and steeped in the blood of martyrs, concludes its publication life with this issue.

END ITS PUBLICATION ITS OWN FREE WILL

When Leader Apo [Abdullah Öcalan] announced the decision to dissolve the PKK’s organizational structure, he based it on the reality that 'everything has a beginning and an end.' He added that 'those who cannot be destroyed by force do this of their own free will.' Just as the PKK, which for half a century resisted all the attacks of capitalist modernity and prevented defeat and suppression, chose to end its organizational structure through its own will during the congress held from May 5–7, so too does Serxwebûn, an entity almost synonymous with the PKK, end its publication now with its own free will after having withstood all attacks.

ITS FIRST ISSUE BROUGHT TO PUBLIC ESTABLISHMENT OF PKK

As is known, Serxwebûn began its publishing life illegally in September 1978 in the dusty and chaotic Kurdistan of the 1970s. With its very first issue, it brought to the public the official establishment of a party like the PKK. It was entirely prepared and shaped by Leader Apo. Its founding became almost synonymous with the reality of the contemporary Kawa, Mazlum Doğan. In the first issue, in an article titled “As We Begin,” Leader Apo wrote: ‘The shame we feel for the situation into which Kurdistan has been dragged will be our true source of strength in fulfilling our duties.’ The PKK showed everyone how, if rightly understood, a sense of shame can become a revolutionary force.

From September 1978 to November 1979, Serxwebûn could publish a total of five issues, one main and four special, illegally in Northern Kurdistan. The footsteps of the 12 September 1980 fascist military coup made it impossible for Serxwebûn to continue publication.

Its second period began in January 1982 with an issue that published the documents of the PKK’s 1st Conference, held in July 1981. From then until May 2025, it was published legally in Europe as a monthly journal. Excluding dozens of special issues, this final issue marks its 521st publication. In this way, it not only sets a record in Kurdistan’s history but also stands among global firsts. It more than deserves its place in history.

DIFFICULTIES DURING ITS 44 YEAR PUBLISHING LIFE

The difficulties it faced during its 44-year publishing life in Europe were no less than those in Kurdistan. From bans and confiscations to raids and deportations, it endured various forms of repression. It survived through resistance. This was made possible by the efforts and resistance of many revolutionaries, from comrade Fuat (Ali Haydar Kaytan), who played a key role in its European founding, to comrades Selçuk and Jiyan.

IDENTITY OF KURDISH REVOLUTIONARY SPIRIT

Serxwebûn is a symbol and identity of Kurdish revolutionary spirit and patriotism in Europe. It succeeded in being the resounding voice of the heroic era of Kurdish resistance. It was a real school where Leader Apo educated revolutionaries and patriots. It will always remain the archive and memory of the Contemporary Kurdish Resistance, the heroic guerrilla war, and the Kurds’ quest for freedom. The legacy it has created will continue to play a role in the development of Kurdish consciousness and belief in freedom.

NOT A CLOSURE BUT NEW BEGINNINGS

It is clear that the ending of Serxwebûn’s publication is not a closure but rather a foundation for new beginnings and openings. It aims to pave the way for new publications based on the theoretical and ideological truth of the Democratic Civilization paradigm. In this sense, the legacy of Serxwebûn, which marked an era, will continue to live and play a role in new media outlets in the new period.

In fact, the issue of delay in change and excessive repetition that Leader Apo mentioned about the PKK also applies to Serxwebûn. Notably, by insisting on the publication of the magazine Democratic Modernity, Leader Apo implemented this transformation decades ago. What remains for us now is to correctly understand this reality and achieve the necessary change and renewal in every sense, overcoming overly emotional approaches. We hope that this interim period does not last long and that the new process develops even more powerfully with successful steps.

SERXWEBÛN WILL CONTINUE TO FULFILL ITS HISTORICAL ROLE

Serxwebûn, which could not be stopped by any internal purges or the immoral attacks of the International Conspiracy, now places itself in its rightful place in history with its own free will. Undoubtedly, it will continue to fulfill its historical role and live on in new media outlets.

Everything is for new and stronger beginnings!

The spirit and consciousness of Serxwebûn will live on forever!"
