HABER MERKEZİ -  March 8 will be celebrated in Shengal under the leadership of women who escaped from ISIS. Edlê Şemo, one of the women, said: “Women are getting organized and closing in on their freedom. This scares men quite a lot."

Preperations for March 8 continues all around the world. Shengal is also preparing for March 8. The Êzidî Women Liberation Movement (TAJÊ) has stepped up its preperations for the March 8 rally. TAJÊ member Hena Elyas spoke to our agency regarding the details of the events to be held on March 8.

Stating that the events and demonstrations have started on March 1, Elyas said: "Celebrating March 8 International Women's Day after the all the pain and suffering we had to endure is very important for us. The women escaped from ISIS will lead the events to be held on March 8. We did not celebrate March 8 before this year because Shengal has always been under the control of others. Today, the Êzidî women have organized themselves and playing a major role in the struggle for freedom."

THE RESISTANCE OF THE ÊZİDÎ WOMEN

Underlining that the world now know the Êzidî women with their epic resistance, Elyas said: "We will celebrate March 8 with great enthusiasm no matter what happens. The pain of the Êzidî women have turned into an epic resistance after the slaughter they have been through. They have organized themselves. Now they are threatening to attack out of fear. We do not accept to be threatened. They are afraid of the Êzidî women. No one knew about the Êzidî women before. Now the whole world knows the Êzidî women with their struggle against the ISIS barbarians.

Underlining that some actors do not want the Êzidî women to get strong, Elyas said: "Êzidî women rescued mothers and sisters from ISIS from Shengal to Minbic to Rakka. The determination and the resistance of women was a response to the world. But some actors do not want the Êzidî women to get stronger and to liberate themselves. They want these women to be slaves and live under their control. We are calling on to all Êzidî women to come and defend Shengal in the face of a possible attack. We have faith in YCŞ and YBŞ forces. We are planning to establish a public security unit consisting of women soon."

One of the Shengali women Edlê Şemo who told that women have to step up the struggle under any circumstances, said: "Êzidî women have changed. We are not like what we were before. We know that our struggle for freedom will succeed. Women are organizing and closing in on their freedom. This scares the men a lot. Zerife Asê was a woman. She carried the women to today, fighting against the Ottoman Empire on her own. We are now taking firm steps on that path.
